Clayoquot Biosphere Trust (CBT)

The Clayoquot Biosphere Trust is a federally registered, British Columbia incorporated, non-profit charitable organization that is the cornerstone of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It supports local research, education, and training that is consistent with the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve’s objectives of conservation and sustainable development.

POLIS Project
:
The POLIS Project on Ecological Governance is an informal research centre at the University of Victoria. POLIS takes a cross-disciplinary approach to research and policy work at the local, national and international levels. The challenge of POLIS is to create a new set of solutions for our political, economic, environmental and social institutions. With a unique combination of academic credibility and activist spirit, POLIS aims to dismantle the notion of the environment as merely another sector, and bring it into the mainstream where it belongs, as a core value in all aspects of our society.

Raincoast Education Society:
The Raincoast Education Society is an independent non-profit society based in Tofino, BC. It is dedicated to promoting research, education, and informed discussion about environmental and social sustainability and is the sponsor of the Raincoast Interpretive Center.

Tofino Botanical Gardens:
The Tofino Botanical Gardens were established in 1997 and provide a place to explore the relationship between culture and nature in Clayoquot Sound. The gardens are dedicated to the creation of a living classroom where present and future generations can learn about the natural and cultural history of both Clayoquot Sound and the remaining coastal temperate rainforests of the world.

Boat Basin Foundation
:
Boat Basin Foundation is a non-profit organization with objectives to maintain “Cougar Annie's Garden” for future generations and to encourage appreciation and education in temperate rainforest ecology. The Foundation property is home to Cougar Annie's Garden and the new Temperate Rainforest Field Study Centre, which are nestled among 117 acres of wilderness property, located inside Hesquiat Harbour in Clayoquot Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The society offers unique educational opportunities to students and other small groups of visitors.

Hooksum Outdoor School:
Hooksum Outdoor School is based at Iusuk, Hesquiat Harbour, in northwestern Clayoquot Sound. A variety of outdoor leadership and customized group programs are offered in the ecological and culturally-aware setting of the ultimate “outside” classroom - the natural world. Hooksum Outdoor School is in the traditional territory of the Kiniqwastakumulth Clan of the Hesquiaht First Nation.

Ahousaht Cultural Center:
The Ahousaht Cultural Centre is a non-profit First Nations Youth Centre, owned and operated by the Board members of Ahousaht. The Ahousaht Cultural Centre operates to serve the youth of Ahousaht, BC.  They aim to collaboratively work with youth and adults to provide cultural, educational and recreational activities.

Community-based Research Forum, UVic
:
A Forum on community-based research (CBR) held at the University of Victoria in April 2005 provided the opportunity for researchers to consider the role of CBR in building healthy communities, both on campus and in wider civil society. More than 80 researchers from a wide range of faculties and research centres took part in the full day long event. Background materials and Forum Proceedings are available on this site.
